RESTORATIVE JUSTICE

                                             RESTORATIVE JUSTICE PUTS SOCIETY FIRST

As we look for solutions to the damaging affect that mass incarceration has had on our society, we come to a glaring reality that one cannot deny. Through the pain of being victimized our society has developed a detached sense of accountability, which has created the "cancel culture" that has turned the pulse of our society as cold as the criminal minded individuals we so want justice from.

There is a great need to reverse the path we have been traveling down and this means we have to create a whole new culture. We here at Society-First believe this new culture is "restorative" in nature, one that brings the heart to the forefront of every individual involved... and Restorative Justice is the right peg to fit in that gaping hole. We need a new approach to the universal effects that crime has had on our world, one that focuses on the future by healing the past.

The "get tough" on crime policies of yesterday has unknowingly turned our hearts into stones that have quit humanizing the mistakes of those who once hurt us. By focusing on punishment without any roads leading to redemption, we have blocked any real opportunity to bring healing to the world around us. It is vital that we remember the removal of humanity will, ultimately, leave a society without the ability to heal and grow.

                                                      WHAT IS RESTORATIVE JUSTICE

Restorative Justice is a social intervention platform that personalizes the criminality that has been depersonalized by the "cancel culture" hardening our hearts and our communities. It focuses on bringing together all individuals who have been impacted by one's criminality and helps whatever level of healing can take place, to take place.

The strict parameters of the cancel culture has healed very little and as with any unhealed wound this has spread poisons throughout the rest of the body of society. Restorative Justice provides the necessary advocates and atmosphere that will be able to bring healing to these unhealed wounds. It will assist all parties involved through dialogue, negotiations, problem/solving, compartmentalizing, and all possibilities of resolution and forgiveness.

The Restorative Justice shift creates a ripple effect that moves away from a retributive system to one that flows into a reparative system. A system that focuses on those who have been hurt while giving wrongdoers a chance at redemption. It aims to restore everything that can be restored and heal everything that can be healed on every front that the criminal act has touched.

The most recognized function of Restorative Justice is victim-offender mediation, which concentrates on preparing victim and offender to engage in open dialogue with one another in reference to the offense and its effects. It is strictly monitored and facilitated by expert mediators enabling the participants to be fully prepared for what can be a highly emotional and sensitive experience.

To get a firsthand look into the true nature of Restorative Justice one only has to watch the first eight episodes of the "The Redemption Project", a documentary produced by the CNN Network. It is a beautiful look into the effectiveness of Restorative Justice as host Van Jones wades through the waters of forgiveness and the healing redemptive power that comes with it.

Society-First will continue its mission to bring Restorative Justice into the reformation of our criminal justice system and we ask that you help bring awareness to its life transforming power also. It is the heart that needs to be addressed and this is the goal of Restorative Justice as it reaches directly into the heart of the matter. As with our vision, Restorative Justice puts society first in both social and criminal justice reform, so let us walk hand in hand with this great ally.
